What’s Up with the Westfields FC?

No one can deny that the world’s number one sport as of the present is football. Football news almost always makes it as a headline in sports channels and the sports section of newspapers. With millions of players and billions of watchers, -the sport has become a craze in South America and Europe and in countries like Brazil, Spain a well as in the United Kingdom. And to channel all these pent up passions and energies about football since the World Cup is not always happening, a lot of people in England support or join football clubs for fun and also to improve their skills through football training. One such football club in existence is the Westfields Football Club or more known as Westfields F. C. The Westfields F. C. is different from the Westfield Football Club in Surrey and the Westfield Football Club in Sussex.

The Westfields F. C. was founded in the year 1966 and is currently based in Herefore, England. The club plays in the Premier Division of the Midland League and is currently in affiliation with the Herefordshire County Football Association. Their fans and supporters know them as the Fields. They play their home games at an area called Allpay park (named such because of the club’s sponsorship with Herfored based company, allpay.net) located in Widemarsh Common in Hereford. This ground has a capacity of two thousand people. Their original ground, though, was at King George V but they moved to Thorn Lighting’s Rotherwas in the year 1975. The club’s present manager is John Morgan while their manager is Sean Edwards. The chief executive is Andy Morris, who is also one of the founders of the club. In their home games, they wear a maroon shirt with sky blue sleeves, sky blue shorts and paired with sky blue socks. In their away game, the players wear an all sky blue shirt, white shorts and pink socks.

Football_36The Westfields F. C. were founded by a group of local youths with the intention of playing friendly football games on the Widemarsh Common. The club first entered the Herefordshire Sunday League and stayed with them for a decade. They started in Division Two of the West Midland Regional League in the year 1978 and moved up until they reached the Premier Division of the league after only three short years. The club was promoted to Midland Alliance in the season of 2002 to 2003 after becoming the Midlands Regional League Premier Division champions.

The club does not have a lot of accolades, awards and honors but the Fields’ best league performance was when they placed second in the season 2011 to 2012 of the Midland Football Alliance. Their best Football Association Cup performance was when they won the first qualifying round on six occasions and their best Football Association Vase performance was in the season of 1986 to 1987 while in the fourth round.

The Westfields F. C. currently does not have a women’s division of their football club but who knows? This may change sometime in the near future.
